TikTok, a popular social media platform, has captured the attention of millions of users
worldwide with unique features such as short videos, creative filters, and collaborative
capabilities through the duet function. Initially designed as an entertainment medium,
TikTok has now shown significant potential in the field of education, particularly in
enhancing speaking skills. Previous studies have highlighted various advantages and
potential of TikTok in improving speaking skills, such as the study by Amalia & Naufal
Nafi’ardina (2024), which found that TikTok usage at the elementary school level could
increase students' learning motivation, despite some weaknesses that need to be
addressed. Arochman & Hasani (2023) emphasized how duet practices on TikTok can
improve university students' speaking skills through interactive collaboration. Agustina &
Putra (2022) analyzed that TikTok-based learning models significantly enhance university
students' interest in learning English. Additionally, TikTok has been shown to effectively
improve higher education students' speaking and grammar skills through TikTok videos
(Cagas, 2022). This study aims to fill the existing gap by investigating TikTok's potential
as an innovative language learning tool. The research employs a literature review method
with a comparative analysis approach to explore trends and findings from previous studies
related to the use of TikTok in language learning, particularly in developing speaking skills.
The results of the study show that TikTok has a positive impact on students' speaking
skills, boosts their motivation to learn, and provides opportunities for students to practice
speaking in a more relaxed and interactive environment. However, the use of TikTok in
educational contexts also faces challenges, such as the potential for distractions from
irrelevant content and limited access to technology, which could affect its effectiveness.
Therefore, further research is needed to explore how TikTok can be more systematically
integrated into formal curricula and address accessibility and digital literacy issues.
