Abstract
This study explores the integration of Islamic philanthropy in hospital settings, specifically in Muhammadiyah Hospital, Indonesia, to enhance access to affordable healthcare for marginalized communities. The research employed a qualitative design. The study sites encompass Muhammadiyah Hospital, located in Ponorogo, Indonesia. Primary data regarding the management of philanthropic funds were collected by interviewing the managers of philanthropic institution within hospital, hospital managers, and receivers of philanthropic donations. The findings showed that Islamic philanthropy is integrated in Muhammadiyah Hospital through a synergy of Islamic philanthropy funds governance. The integration uses zakat and infaq funds to meet basic needs, such as health service costs. Infaq funds are used as complements to support zakat funds and are allocated to recipients that zakat funds cannot cover. Meanwhile, waqf procures fixed assets like buildings and patient rooms. The Islamic philanthropic institution unit inside Muhammadiyah Hospital integrates ZISWAF funds. This study extends the previous literature about Islamic philanthropy for the health sector and conceptually proposes a model of Islamic integration philanthropy in hospitals by adding CSR as a source of philanthropic funds. The integration enhances the accessibility of healthcare services for marginalized communities.
